Brandon Blackstock, the late talent manager and former husband of Kelly Clarkson, had reportedly been involved in a controversial romance at the time of his passing.

New reports suggest that Blackstock’s “loving partner” was none other than his ex-wife’s former assistant, Brittney Marie Jones, sparking speculation about an affair that may have unfolded during her marriage to another man.

According to Page Six, Jones’ husband, Greg Goose LaPoint, discovered the alleged relationship in the summer of 2023.

“He got screwed over due to [Jones and Blackstock’s] fling starting during his marriage,” a source told the publication.

Representatives for Blackstock, Jones, and LaPoint have not responded to requests for comment.

Building a Life Together in Montana

Blackstock, who passed away on August 7 at age 48 after a private battle with melanoma, had been quietly building a new chapter with Jones in Montana.

His obituary confirmed that he and Jones were partners both in life and business, working together on ventures such as Headwaters Livestock Auction and the Valley View Rodeo in Bozeman.

“After more than 20 years in the music business, Brandon found his way back to the mountains and the cowboy way of life he always wanted to live,” the obituary stated.

“He found a homestead and a love in Butte, Montana.”

From Assistant to Partner

Jones’ connection to both Blackstock and Clarkson adds an extra layer of intrigue.

A December 2024 report by the US Sun noted that Jones, previously Clarkson’s assistant, had worked closely with both the singer and Blackstock.

Her LinkedIn profile detailed her transition from managing day-to-day operations for Clarkson under Blackstock to serving as Blackstock’s executive assistant for his Montana cattle business.

She also identified herself as Executive Assistant for V Bar V Cattle Co. LLC — formerly Vintage Valley Ranch — further tying her to Blackstock’s post-divorce life and ventures.

Marriage and Divorce: A Complicated Timeline

Jones had been married to drummer and nutritionist Greg Goose LaPoint.

The couple tied the knot in September 2021, sharing glimpses of their life together on social media.

However, their relationship reportedly began to unravel in early 2023, coinciding with the alleged affair with Blackstock.

Page Six reported that LaPoint filed for divorce in July 2023, citing irreconcilable differences, and the divorce was finalized by February 2024.

Interestingly, Jones’ LinkedIn profile listed their separation as January 2023, though LaPoint had posted a smiling photo of the couple during that month, adding ambiguity to the timeline.

Tributes from Family and Former Spouses

The revelations about Blackstock’s personal life emerged shortly after heartfelt tributes from his family.

His first wife, Melissa Ashworth, shared memories of their time together and praised him as a devoted father to their children, Savannah, 23, and Seth, 18.

“Brandon was full of charm, wit, and just an absolute gentleman,” she wrote on Instagram.

“The best thing Brandon has left for his children is they know where he is.

I’ve heard it said, ‘Nothing is lost when you know where it is,’ and Brandon is with Jesus his Savior.”

Seth Blackstock also posted a moving tribute, calling his father his hero and recalling childhood moments alongside his siblings.

“I lost my hero yesterday, words can’t describe how proud of you I am on raising me and your 3 other kids,” he wrote, concluding with, “Love you dad.

Be good or good at it — love your son Seth.”

Remembering Brandon Blackstock

Brandon, the former stepson of Reba McEntire, was married to Kelly Clarkson from 2013 to 2022, with whom he had two children: River, 11, and Remington, 9.

His passing came as Clarkson postponed dates on her Las Vegas residency due to his illness.

A family representative released a statement: “It is with great sadness that we share the news that Brandon Blackstock has passed away.

Brandon bravely battled cancer for more than three years. He passed away peacefully and was surrounded by family.

We thank you for your thoughts and prayers and ask everyone to respect the family’s privacy during this very difficult time.”
