Sekhukhune United made headlines on Tuesday at the FNB Stadium, thanks to a sensational performance from veteran striker Bradley Grobler.
The 37-year-old netted a brace, powering his team to a 3-1 victory over Kaizer Chiefs and handing Amakhosi their first loss of the season.
Thabang Monare added the third goal to secure the win, pushing Sekhukhune United back to the top of the league standings.
A Personal Triumph Against Chiefs
After the match, Grobler didn’t hide his delight at scoring against Chiefs.
He admitted it felt especially rewarding given his recent struggles with illness.
“It feels great, honestly. I haven’t trained in the last four days because of a throat and chest infection.
I arrived at camp late yesterday and still managed to play,” he told SuperSport TV.
Grobler also reflected on the personal satisfaction of scoring against a team that once doubted him.
“Sometimes it’s nice scoring against teams that, four, five, six years ago, told you that you were old and past your prime.
Tonight’s performance was big. I think it will make people take us more seriously, but we don’t want to put pressure on ourselves. We aim to win every game.”
A Longstanding Record Against Amakhosi
This wasn’t Grobler’s first time troubling Kaizer Chiefs. Over 19 seasons in top-flight football, the ex-SuperSport United star has developed a habit of finding the net against Amakhosi.
To date, he has scored 12 goals across all competitions against the Johannesburg giants, cementing his reputation as a persistent threat.
“There’s nothing personal against Chiefs,” he added.
“It just feels nice scoring against a team that, six or seven years ago, told me I was past my prime. That’s just how it is sometimes.”
Eyes on the Title
While the victory is a confidence boost, Grobler remains focused on the bigger picture.
He and Sekhukhune United are looking to challenge for the league, seeing each win as a step toward that goal.
“We’d like to fight for the league, and tonight is a big stepping stone, even though we’ve got a long way to go,” he said.
With Grobler leading the charge, Sekhukhune United fans will be hopeful their team can maintain this momentum and continue to challenge at the top of the table.
