The Borno State Governor Babagana Umara Zulum Flags- off a 3-day conference with the theme ‘revamping the educational system in Borno’.
One of the key transformation agenda of the Borno State Government under the leader of Governor Babagana Umara Zulum is to revive the educational system in Borno State.
The state over the years had witness some set back due to the insurgency activities that ravage institutional infrastructure and left student and teachers with a troubling image.
The ministry of education has taken a major step to forestall the pass glory in the educational system.
The ministry is organising a 3-day conference for principal of government secondary school with the theme revamping public secondary schools by addressing the emerging challenging.
The Chairman Teachers Service Board, Professor Suleiman Bello, who gave his remarks at the event said, “the purpose of this 3 days conference is to revamp the secondary school system in the state by addressing the challenging problem confronting the educational system in the state.
“Almost 90% of our schools in more than 19 LGA’s were completely destroyed by the insurgency forcing the government to close down schools for almost 4 years in the affected areas.
The Commissioner for Education Engr Lawan Abba Wakilbe, who also graced the occasion said, “I wish to comment my predecessor for steering education administration in the state at our most difficult time, for operating education under emergency.
“I salute the vision of my predecessor for coming up with the learning centres at the time.
After 6 years now the learning centre have become so difficult to control no body is in-charge.
Indiscipline among students, teachers rejecting rural posting thereby hampering the return and take off, of their schools in the cause of relocation, and exam malpractice among others.
Governor Babagana Umara Zulum in his remarks said: “As u may recalled the insurgency is responsible for our educational set back over the years, let me use this opportunity to convey my deep appreciation to the chairman and members of the need assessment for doing wonderful during the cause of discharging their duties.
“This conference is set to address the matters arising from this initiative in view of emerging challenges and how to best address them with key stakeholders in the sector.
“This government will not relent in its effort to revamp the educational sector till it regain its previous position, one of the serious challenges we are facing is the falling standard of education in the state.
“And this will not be acceptable, a situation was by somebody in SS3 can not read or write is totally not acceptable, therefore if we want to get rid of this problem, we must re-introduce what we are doing before.
“Our schools have to imbibe the method of demotion, students should be demoted if they have a poor academic performance, now the culture of demoting students is not in existence in our secondary schools no child will grow without discipline.
