When businessman Nigel Huxley picked up a new treat for his beloved black Labrador, Parker, he never imagined it would lead to a life-threatening emergency.
Like most pet owners, he simply wanted to reward his dog with something special.
Instead, he ended up with a terrifying ordeal, a massive vet bill, and a warning for fellow dog lovers.
A Sudden Health Scare
Just two days after enjoying his Webbox Mega Meaty Serrano Ham Bone, Parker started acting strangely.
He was panting excessively, seemed restless, and showed signs of extreme distress.
Alarmed, Mr. Huxley wasted no time and rushed him to the vet.
The examination revealed something shocking—the bone was lodged deep inside Parker’s stomach.
It was stuck so firmly that the vets initially feared they might have to crack open his rib cage to get it out.
A Close Call and a Costly Lesson
Fortunately, after an intense and complicated procedure, Parker pulled through.
But the experience left Mr. Huxley shaken, especially since the vet bill amounted to a staggering £3,500.
While he was relieved that Parker survived, he couldn’t shake the thought of what might have happened if he hadn’t acted quickly.
Concerns Over the Product’s Safety
Mr. Huxley blames the bone’s design for the entire ordeal.
He believes the meat was much larger than the small knuckle bone inside, making it more dangerous than expected.
Although the product carried a disclaimer advising owners not to leave their pets unattended, he pointed out that constant supervision isn’t always practical.
Now, he’s calling for the product to be recalled to prevent other dogs from suffering the same fate.
“I want assurances that these will not stay on the shelves. I think it’s disgusting,” he said, urging the company to take action.
Webbox Responds
In response, a spokesperson for Webbox expressed relief that Parker was recovering but emphasized the importance of supervision when giving dogs natural chew products.
“We take great care in selecting our bones to minimize the risk of fragmentation,” they stated.
“For their safety, we include detailed advice on our products, including clear instructions for owners to keep a constant watch while their pets enjoy our treats.”
What’s Next?
While Parker was lucky to survive, Mr. Huxley remains concerned that another dog might not be so fortunate.
His story serves as a cautionary tale for pet owners everywhere—always be mindful of what your dog is chewing on, no matter how safe it seems.
As for the Webbox bone? That’s one treat Parker won’t be getting again.
