Berrios bids farewell to Jets Nation with a heartfelt message

Braxton Berrios has bid farewell to the New York Jets as his time with the team comes to an end. The Jets and Berrios were unable to come to terms on a contract restructuring, resulting in his release. Berrios expressed his gratitude in an Instagram post, saying that he couldn’t imagine a better place to play and people to share memories with. He also noted that he grew so much during his four seasons with Gang Green, going from a cast-off to an All-Pro kickoff returner in 2021.

Berrios signed a two-year, $12 million contract before the 2022 season, but his $8.232 million cap number for 2023 was too high for the Jets. His release will save the team $5 million in cap space, a significant amount as the team explores a trade for Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers.

During his time with the Jets, Berrios accumulated 107 receptions for 1,085 yards and five touchdowns through the air. He also totaled 767 yards as a punt returner and added 1,667 yards and a touchdown on kickoffs.

Despite understanding the business side of the decision, Berrios expressed his gratitude towards the Johnson family, Joe Douglas and the front office for giving him a chance four years ago. Berrios thanked them for allowing him to build his career in New York.

Berrios, who is dating model and influencer Sophia Culpo, expressed his hope for his former teammates and the team’s future. He believes the Jets are on the right track and their fans are diehards who will always be missed.
