It’s a tough time to be Wynne Evans. Just weeks ago, the opera singer best known as the face of Go Compare tried to clear his name in a live TV interview.
But now, new information has come to light suggesting the story isn’t quite as clean-cut as he claimed.
Evans Denied Any Complaints — But New Reports Say Otherwise
When Evans appeared on ITV’s This Morning last Wednesday, he seemed confident.
Speaking to Cat Deeley and Ben Shephard, he said clearly: “There has never been any complaints about me. Ever!”
However, The Mail on Sunday is now reporting that seven complaints were actually made against him — all from women — during his time at BBC Wales.
These complaints were reportedly lodged between July 2023 and August 2024, a period that overlaps with his involvement in Strictly Come Dancing.
One Disturbing Comment Involved a Pregnant Woman
Among the claims, one stands out as particularly troubling: Evans allegedly made an inappropriate comment about a pregnant woman’s breasts — and he did so during a Zoom meeting.
Sources say the remark made multiple staff members feel uncomfortable, and that it wasn’t an isolated incident.
A former colleague revealed, “Some of the comments he made were awful… Imagine saying something like that about a pregnant woman.”
Complaints Were Known Internally But Rarely Addressed
According to insiders, the complaints weren’t a secret.
Staff at BBC Wales reportedly knew about them — but few felt safe enough to speak up.
One ex-colleague, who asked to remain anonymous for fear of career consequences, said, “Everyone was afraid to speak out. Wynne was treated as untouchable.”
She added that what started as “clownish” behavior gradually escalated into something that made people feel deeply uncomfortable.
“He wasn’t just telling rude jokes,” she said. “He was warned multiple times, and he kept crossing the line.”
Strictly Appearance Added Fuel to the Fire
The situation becomes even more questionable when you consider that four complaints were made before Evans was cast on Strictly Come Dancing.
That raises eyebrows about how thoroughly the show vetted him before putting him in the spotlight.
After he was selected, three more complaints were filed.
Still, he remained on the show until a different controversy pushed him off.
His Strictly Tour Ended in Controversy
Evans’ time on Strictly wasn’t smooth sailing either.
In January, he made headlines for using the vulgar term “spit roast” — referring to a sexual act — while talking about professional dancer Janette Manrara in front of co-star Jamie Borthwick.
The incident occurred during the launch of the Strictly Live Tour, and Evans left the tour shortly after issuing an apology.
That wasn’t his only brush with controversy during the show.
There was also a “wandering hand” incident with his dance partner, Katya Jones, that raised further concerns.
He Missed a Disciplinary Hearing Citing Mental Health
Earlier this year, a report into Evans’ behavior was prepared ahead of a BBC disciplinary hearing.
But Evans said he couldn’t attend — citing mental health reasons.
The hearing has not been publicly rescheduled.
Public Reaction Is Divided
Reactions to the unfolding story are mixed. Some defend Evans, saying he’s a product of an earlier era in entertainment when different standards applied.
But others are clear that those excuses don’t hold water anymore.
“This idea of ‘It was just a joke’ doesn’t fly,” the former colleague said.
“Not when you’ve been warned multiple times and women still feel unsafe.”
The BBC Responds to the Allegations
The BBC has confirmed they are aware of the issues and say they have taken them seriously.
A spokesperson stated: “We take any issues raised with us seriously and we have robust processes in place to deal with them.”
Evans Has Stayed Silent Since the Revelations
As for Evans himself, he has declined to comment on the latest reports.
For now, his silence only adds to the cloud of uncertainty around him — and many are left wondering whether more stories will come to light.
