The BBC is refusing to let controversy overshadow its biggest entertainment show.
As the new season of Strictly Come Dancing approaches, the broadcaster is standing firm behind one of its stars who has been accused of drug use.
Despite the storm brewing around the allegations, insiders say the unnamed celebrity has been given a prominent role in this year’s lineup, even though police and external lawyers are looking into the claims.
Allegations Sparked by Wynne Evans
The controversy began when Wynne Evans, best known for his Go Compare adverts, accused a Strictly star of cocaine use earlier this year.
He reportedly made the claims official through his legal team back in March.
The 53-year-old presenter was already on rocky terms with the BBC, after being axed in May for making a crude and offensive remark about professional dancer Janette Manrara.
Even though he later apologized, his relationship with the broadcaster crumbled, and he has since turned to hosting his own online radio show.
BBC Loyalty Put to the Test
Insiders say the BBC isn’t wavering in its support.
According to one source, the corporation is “fed up with Wynne causing trouble” and is determined not to let him derail their flagship Saturday night show.
One BBC insider even suggested the allegations look like a bitter act of revenge, claiming Evans has been on a mission to drag Strictly’s name through the mud since losing his contract.
Police and Legal Inquiries Underway
While the drama behind the scenes escalates, official investigations are also in motion.
The Metropolitan Police confirmed they received a complaint about drug-related offenses on August 12 and are assessing whether a crime has been committed.
The BBC, meanwhile, brought in external lawyers from Pinsent Masons weeks earlier to examine claims that two cast members had been involved with cocaine.
Dark Cloud Over the Dance Floor
With Strictly’s glittering new season just weeks away, the controversy has cast a shadow over what should be an exciting fresh start.
Insiders say the unnamed star at the center of the storm is “living a life of torment” but the BBC is determined to make sure the scandal doesn’t ruin the joy for other contestants or for viewers at home.
Who’s Taking to the Floor This Year?
Despite the off-screen chaos, fans still have a lot to look forward to when the new season kicks off.
This year’s cast includes Doctor Who star Alex Kingston, Love Island’s Dani Dyer, Gladiator athlete Harry Aikines-Aryeetey, and Emmerdale actor Lewis Cope.
The glitter, sequins, and samba may be about to begin, but behind the sparkle, Strictly is preparing for one of its most scrutinized seasons yet.
