Bayer Leverkusen target Chelsea winger Raheem Sterling after disappointing loan spell at Arsenal

Despite a tough year, Raheem Sterling might be packing his bags again—this time possibly heading to Germany.

While his recent loan spell at Arsenal didn’t exactly set the Premier League on fire, it seems European clubs haven’t lost faith in his potential just yet.

A Forgettable Season at Arsenal

Sterling spent the last campaign on loan at Arsenal, but things didn’t quite go to plan.

Over the course of 28 appearances, he managed to find the back of the net just once.

It was a frustrating season for the 30-year-old forward, and he’s now returned to Chelsea—though not with much certainty about his future there.

Bayer Leverkusen Eye a Move

According to a report from the BBC, Bayer Leverkusen are among the clubs keeping close tabs on Sterling.

The German side is in a transitional phase after a major shake-up this summer.

They’ve lost key figures—including manager Xabi Alonso, who’s off to Real Madrid, and top players like Florian Wirtz.

A New Era at Leverkusen Under Ten Hag

It’s not just Wirtz who’s left. Starting wing-back Jeremie Frimpong and centre-back Jonathan Tah have both exited, and Granit Xhaka is reportedly on the verge of joining Sunderland.

That leaves new head coach Erik ten Hag with a lot of rebuilding to do if he hopes to take on Bayern Munich in the Bundesliga title race.

Could Sterling Fit Into the Leverkusen Project?

If Leverkusen do go ahead with a formal approach, it would be a chance for Sterling to hit the reset button at a club competing in the Champions League.

But he’d need to prove he’s still got that spark—especially on a team with big ambitions and a revamped squad.

Sterling’s Uncertain Status at Chelsea

Back at Stamford Bridge, things aren’t exactly clearer.

Reports earlier this month suggested Sterling hasn’t been given a concrete idea of where he fits into Chelsea’s plans.

What is clear, though, is that new manager Enzo Maresca doesn’t see him as part of the core going forward.

Still Open to a Premier League Stay

Sterling is reportedly on the transfer list this summer.

And while a move abroad could be on the cards, he hasn’t ruled out staying in the Premier League either.

At just 30 years old, he still believes he has more to offer.

Chelsea Tried to Use Sterling in Transfer Talks

There were also discussions earlier this summer between Chelsea and West Ham, particularly during talks about Mohammed Kudus—before Kudus eventually signed with Tottenham.

At one point, Chelsea even floated the idea of sending Sterling (or other players) to the Hammers in a swap.

But West Ham weren’t keen on that proposal.

What Comes Next for Sterling?

For now, Sterling remains a Chelsea player, but it’s clear his future lies elsewhere.

Whether it’s Bayer Leverkusen or another club in Europe or England, his next move will be one to watch—especially if he wants to revive his form and reputation on a big stage once again.
