Barcelona are showing some hesitation about paying a hefty price for Marcus Rashford.
Even though the Spanish giants have openly shown interest in the Manchester United forward, reports suggest they aren’t keen on meeting United’s £40 million asking price for the 27-year-old.
Rashford’s Desire to Leave Manchester United
Rashford has been on the move in recent months, having spent the second half of this season on loan at Aston Villa, where he impressed with several goals and assists.
But despite the promising stint, it seems the English striker is ready to part ways with United, especially after some tension with Portugal coach Ruben Amorim.
He’s reportedly wanted a switch to Barcelona for a while now.
Barcelona Prefers a Loan Deal Over a Full Transfer
Even with Rashford’s form picking up at Villa, Barcelona’s interest apparently doesn’t stretch beyond a loan deal.
According to reports from German outlet Bild, the Catalan club would prefer not to commit to a full purchase, likely due to financial constraints.
Manchester United, on the other hand, want to move Rashford permanently and aren’t keen on loaning him out again unless it includes an option to buy.
Financial Challenges for Barcelona
One big hurdle for Barcelona is Rashford’s salary, which clocks in at around £315,000 a week.
Covering that wage would be a tough ask given the club’s well-known financial struggles.
If a deal for Rashford can’t be worked out on terms that suit both sides, Barcelona are reportedly ready to look elsewhere.
Alternative Targets on Barcelona’s Radar
If Rashford’s move falls through, Barcelona have their eyes set on Liverpool’s Luis Diaz, whose contract at Anfield has just two years left.
And if that deal doesn’t pan out either, the club reportedly has two other exciting options in mind: Bayern Munich’s Kingsley Coman and Arsenal’s Gabriel Martinelli.
Talks Between Rashford’s Agent and Barcelona
Rashford’s agent, who is also his brother Dwaine Maynard, reportedly met with Barcelona’s sporting director Deco earlier this week in Spain.
Deco didn’t confirm any specific moves but admitted Barcelona like both Rashford and Diaz, along with other wingers.
He was careful to avoid discussing players currently under contract elsewhere.
Barcelona’s Impressive Season Under Hansi Flick
Meanwhile, Barcelona have been flying high under their manager Hansi Flick, winning La Liga and the Copa del Rey, and reaching the Champions League semi-finals.
With such success, they are clearly looking to bolster their squad with top talent — but financial realities might shape how they go about it.
