Auctioneers prepare to sell three lavish Gupta mansions in Johannesburg after years of legal disputes

After years of legal back-and-forth and public scrutiny, three of the Gupta family’s lavish Saxonwold homes in Johannesburg are officially going under the hammer.

For many South Africans, it feels like the closing chapter in a long and controversial saga.

Auction Set for July as Legal Wrangling Comes to an End

The properties, which are owned under the Gupta-linked company Confident Concept (Pty) Ltd, will be auctioned on 24 July 2025.

This move follows the company’s business rescue process after hitting financial distress.

Clive Lazarus of Park Village Auctions, the group handling the sale, called the upcoming event “the beginning of the end” of a scandal that’s been unfolding for the better part of a decade.

Step Inside the Extravagant Homes on Saxonwold Drive

There are three properties up for grabs, and they each come with their own slice of opulence:

🏠 5 Saxonwold Drive

This triple-storey mansion is anything but modest.

Think eight bedrooms, sprawling living spaces, an indoor pool, a massive rooftop patio, staff quarters, and roomy garages—all spread across a 4,207 square metre property.

🏠 7 Saxonwold Drive

Arguably the most jaw-dropping of the three, this house boasts a staggering 17 en-suite bedrooms.

Inside, you’ll find a grand triple-volume foyer, multiple lounges (including a cinema-style room), a beauty salon, and more staff accommodation.

🏠 3 Saxonwold Drive

A bit more understated, this single-storey home comes with three bedrooms, a garage, a storeroom, and staff quarters.

While smaller, it still holds its own in the luxury department.

Furnishings and Features Included in the Sale

It’s not just the buildings going up for auction—each home’s contents, including furniture and appliances, will be sold too.

But there’s a catch: they’ll be sold as one lot per property, not item by item.

Anyone interested in bidding will need to register and pay a refundable deposit.

Property viewings will be held on 6, 13, 19, and 20 July 2025, between 10:00 AM and 4:00 PM.

These Homes Were More Than Just Lavish Retreats

These weren’t just regular high-end homes. They were once the backdrop to serious political drama.

Former Deputy Finance Minister Mcebisi Jonas testified at the Zondo Commission about being offered a bribe during a meeting at one of the Saxonwold homes.

The Company Behind It All: Confident Concept (Pty) Ltd

The Guptas’ real estate holding company, Confident Concept, has had a rocky road.

Apart from being in business rescue, the company’s also been battling with the City of Johannesburg over unpaid property taxes—allegedly owing over R726,000 by 2022.

Following years of legal appeals, the Supreme Court of Appeal finally cleared the path for the properties to be auctioned.

According to Lazarus, the decision could finally bring closure for creditors who’ve been waiting years to get paid.
