ASUU strike: Nigerian students protest in Abuja and others

The National Association of Nigerian Students, NANS, organized a protest in Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory, and other areas of the country on Monday, February 28, in protest of the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU’s, ongoing strike. Sunday Asefon, the association’s National President, gathered with other students at Abuja’s Unity Fountain.

on Monday, February 28th, with a variety of placards.

The protest was also staged in several states, including Kano State’s Kofar Nasarawa; Plateau State’s Jos; Niger State’s Minna; Taraba State’s Jalingo; Ekiti State’s Ekiti; and Oyo State’s Oyo State.

Speaking to newsmen, NANS president said they were marching from the Unity Fountain to the Federal Secretariat

and then proceed to the National Assembly.

Last Tuesday, the association issued a one-week ultimatum to the Federal Government to resolve its disagreement with ASUU or face a national mass action by Nigerian students across the country.

Asefon said the students would block some major roads in the nation’s capital if the government and ASUU fail to

resolve the issues within the weekend.
