Aston Villa have now thrown their hat into the ring for Wolves’ in-form striker, Matheus Cunha, joining several other Premier League clubs keeping a close eye on the Brazilian’s situation.
With the January transfer window winding down, Cunha’s future is sparking plenty of speculation, as top clubs look to snap him up.
Premier League Rivals Eye Matheus Cunha
Nottingham Forest, Chelsea, Arsenal, Tottenham, and Manchester United are all reportedly keen on the 25-year-old, and now Villa are also considering a move.
However, the Birmingham club would likely need to make space in their squad first by offloading a player before making any formal offer for Cunha.
Jhon Duran’s Potential Departure Could Clear the Way
One potential exit that could pave the way for Cunha’s arrival is striker Jhon Duran, who has emerged as a target for Saudi Pro League side Al-Nassr.
Villa recently rejected a £57million bid from West Ham for Duran, and it remains uncertain whether the club will be willing to sell.
If they do, it would help free up funds to secure Cunha’s signature, as Villa are reportedly unwilling to make an offer for the Wolves forward without first balancing their books.
Wolves’ Determined Stance on Keeping Cunha
Despite all the interest, Wolves are firm in their position that Cunha is not for sale.
The club is also in talks to extend his current contract, which still has two-and-a-half years remaining.
There’s a sense of optimism at Molineux that a new deal will be agreed, but no one is rushing him into signing just yet.
Talks about a new contract are seen as a way to reward Cunha for his impressive contributions, rather than a strategy to secure his long-term future.
Will Wolves Hold Firm or Reconsider for the Right Offer?
As it stands, Wolves are not entertaining any formal offers for Cunha, and the player himself appears reluctant to commit to a new deal until the transfer window closes.
However, it’s clear that if a £60million-plus bid comes in, the club may be forced to rethink their stance.
The challenge then would be to find a suitable replacement for the forward, should he leave.
