Arsenal’s push to bolster their defensive line this summer has hit an early snag.

The Gunners made a move for 20-year-old Valencia defender Christian Mosquera, but their opening bid was swiftly turned down by the Spanish club.

Looking for Depth Behind Saliba and Gabriel

With William Saliba and Gabriel forming one of the Premier League’s most reliable centre-back pairings, Mikel Arteta isn’t necessarily looking to shake up his starting backline.

Instead, he’s keen on adding quality depth — especially after Gabriel’s hamstring injury in April exposed how thin the squad was in that department.

Saliba, who played every league match last season, could also benefit from some rotation.

Enter Mosquera — a promising young talent Arsenal believe could fit perfectly into their squad structure.

Valencia Holding Firm on Asking Price

Unfortunately for Arsenal, Valencia aren’t budging on their valuation.

The Spanish side reportedly rejected Arsenal’s initial offer, insisting the club must meet Mosquera’s £17 million (€20 million) release clause.

Sporting director Edu and Arteta remain interested, but Arsenal will need to decide whether they’re willing to match that full price or move on to other targets.

Nørgaard Deal Done as Midfield Reshuffle Continues

While the Mosquera deal is still in limbo, Arsenal have already wrapped up another signing.

They’ve agreed on a £15 million deal with Brentford for midfielder Christian Nørgaard.

With Jorginho gone to Flamengo on a free and uncertainty surrounding Thomas Partey’s future, this move strengthens Arteta’s midfield options ahead of the new season.

Striker Hunt Heats Up

Up front, Arsenal are still chasing a long-awaited striker signing.

RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Sesko remains their top target, but negotiations haven’t been easy.

Leipzig are fully aware of how desperate Arsenal are for a forward and are holding firm in talks.

Meanwhile, Viktor Gyokeres of Sporting Lisbon has emerged as a serious alternative.

The Swedish striker reportedly believed he had a gentleman’s agreement in place for a €70 million move — but Sporting now want the full €100 million (£84 million) in his release clause.

Things have gotten tense, with Gyokeres allegedly threatening to go on strike and Sporting’s president accusing his camp of blackmail tactics.

Winger Options Also on the Radar

Arsenal aren’t stopping at defenders and strikers.

They’re also eyeing a winger to add spark to their attack.

Eberechi Eze and Real Madrid’s Rodrygo are two names making the rounds.

Athletic Club’s Nico Williams was also on their list, but he’s made it clear that if he leaves Bilbao, it’ll be to join Barcelona.

Goalkeeper Situation Sorted with Kepa Deal

In goal, Arsenal have addressed their backup situation.

With Neto returning to Bournemouth after his loan, the club triggered Kepa Arrizabalaga’s £5 million release clause from Chelsea.

Kepa, who had a decent loan spell last season, will now provide cover for David Raya.
