Ilaje Local Government in Ondo State has been thrown into concern after reports emerged of the alleged kidnapping of a prominent political figure.

Mr. Owoloemi Emorioloye, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), reportedly went missing following a brazen attack at his office in Igbokoda, the local government headquarters.

The Abduction Incident

According to a statement by Mr. Maurice Oripenaye, Chairman of Ilaje Local Government, armed assailants stormed Emorioloye’s office on Thursday morning, January 15, arriving in two Hilux vans.

Eyewitnesses said the attackers forcibly took the victim, and his whereabouts have remained unknown since the incident.

The council chairman described the abduction as a “flagrant violation of public safety” and an attack on the peace-loving residents of Ilaje, adding that the event occurred in broad daylight along the busy Okonga/Olodo Junction.

Community Outcry and Call for Action

Chairman Oripenaye condemned the abduction and urged security agencies to act swiftly to secure Emorioloye’s release.

He emphasized the importance of avoiding misinformation that could escalate tensions or hinder investigations.

“The Ilaje Local Government strongly denounces this reprehensible act and extends our heartfelt solidarity to the family, friends, and associates of Prince Emorioloye Owoloemi,” he stated.

“We also call on the public to remain calm and refrain from spreading unverified reports.”

Coordinated Security Response

The council chairman revealed that immediate contact had been made with all relevant security agencies, including the Nigeria Police Force, the Department of State Services, the Nigerian Army, and local security networks, to coordinate a swift response.

He reassured residents that their safety remains a top priority.

Police Confirm Investigation

When reached for comment, Mr. Abayomi Jimoh, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) for Ondo State, confirmed the reported abduction.

He stated that a full-scale investigation is underway, though information remains limited at this stage.

Jimoh also appealed to the public to stay calm and assured residents that the police are taking steps to secure lives and property across the state.

“The command has put every measure on the ground to ensure the security of lives and property in Ondo State,” he added.
