In a recent interview, Anthony Joshua showed his irritation when asked about the upcoming heavyweight showdown between Oleksandr Usyk and Daniel Dubois.
Despite having shared the ring with both fighters, Joshua was not in the mood to discuss their impending clash, leaving the interviewer stunned by his reaction.
Joshua’s History with Usyk and Dubois
Joshua has faced both Oleksandr Usyk and Daniel Dubois in the ring.
He suffered two losses to Usyk, both on points, and was knocked out by Dubois in their 2023 encounter at Wembley Stadium.
Now, with Dubois set to return to Wembley on July 19 to challenge Usyk for the undisputed heavyweight title, the fight has generated significant buzz.
But Joshua, it seems, isn’t particularly interested in adding to the conversation.
A Tense Exchange with the Interviewer
When asked for his thoughts on the upcoming fight during a chat with iFL TV, Joshua made it clear that he wasn’t keen on discussing the matter.
He bluntly told the interviewer, “I’ve got a few thoughts on it, but I feel like I don’t want to talk on it too much because it’s not my fight, it’s their fight.
I don’t want to promote their fight. I don’t want to talk about it.
I’ll be honest with you, I don’t want to talk about it.”
The interviewer, Kugan Cassius, seemed a bit taken aback by Joshua’s response and pressed him further.
But Joshua, visibly frustrated, fired back, “Why you asking me for? Turn the camera off and ask me about it.
You’re asking me about it in front of the bright lights and put it out in front of the media to promote your channel and their fight. I’m not doing it.”
An Awkward Moment on Camera
As the exchange grew tense, Cassius attempted to lighten the mood by pointing out that the fight would be broadcast on DAZN, the same platform where Joshua fights.
But Joshua remained firm in his stance, saying, “It’s not my interest.
But it will be a good fight and good luck to both of them.”
Joshua’s Focus Shifts to His Own Future
While Joshua was reluctant to delve into the Usyk-Dubois bout, he was more forthcoming when talking about his own plans.
Over the weekend, he attended Canelo Alvarez’s fight against William Scull in Saudi Arabia and hinted that he still hopes to settle his score with Tyson Fury later this year.
However, Joshua also revealed that he will undergo elbow surgery this month, which will likely delay his return to the ring.
With no fights since his loss to Dubois, it now seems unlikely that Joshua will return to action until late 2025.
