Anthony Joshua confirms he still wants to fight Tyson Fury as he recovers from elbow injury in Riyadh after attending Canelo Alvarez’s match

Anthony Joshua has recently sparked fresh speculation about a potential matchup with British rival Tyson Fury, despite the fight still being a long way off.

During an exclusive conversation with Mail Sport, Joshua hinted that the long-anticipated “Battle of Britain” could still be on the cards.

Tyson Fury’s Retirement and Possible Comeback

Reports surfaced last week suggesting that Tyson Fury might come out of retirement for a high-stakes fight with Joshua.

Fans have long hoped for this showdown, and the idea of the two British giants clashing continues to excite the boxing world.

Fury, who announced his retirement for the fourth time in January after losing to Oleksandr Usyk, has been back in the gym, leading to rumors that he might make a dramatic return.

His promoter, Frank Warren, acknowledged that the potential fight would be appealing to everyone involved, adding that “you never know what can happen in boxing.”

Joshua’s Response and Readiness for the Fight

As Joshua arrived to watch Canelo Alvarez’s victory over William Scull in Riyadh, he was asked about his thoughts on facing Fury.

With a playful tone, he responded, “We’ll save that conversation for another time,” adding that the answer would likely be the same as before.

He laughed and said, “Same same, nothing changed.”

For Joshua, however, the fight will only happen once he’s back to full fitness.

He has not fought since his shock loss to Daniel Dubois at Wembley Stadium in September, where he was knocked out in five rounds.

That defeat came after he was dropped multiple times in front of a crowd of 96,000 fans.

Joshua’s Injury and Recovery Plans

Since the defeat, Joshua has been dealing with an injury.

Speaking to DAZN, he revealed that he will need surgery on his elbow, which will keep him out of action for a short period.

“I’ve got to have surgery on my elbow. A small surgery sometime in May,” Joshua explained.

“That will see me out the gym for maybe 6-8 weeks, but as soon as I’m healed, I’ll be back.”

Joshua emphasized the importance of taking time to recover properly.

“My body has been through the works,” he said.

“If I want to be here for the long term, I just want to make sure my body is really, really good before I get back into the ring.”

Joshua’s Commitment to Improvement

Reflecting on his recent performances, Joshua admitted that while he was “good” in his last fight, he knows that being merely good is not enough to be a world champion.

“To be good is not enough in boxing; if you want to be a world champion, you’ve got to be great,” he explained.

“I need to step my game up.”

Joshua remains committed to getting back to his best, saying, “I’m still training but I’m just kind of rebuilding. To be a champion, you’ve got to be ‘on your s***,’ and I’m working on that.”

Looking Ahead

While fans continue to hope for the eventual showdown between Joshua and Fury, both fighters have significant work ahead of them.

Joshua, focused on recovery and self-improvement, is determined to return stronger and ready for whatever comes next in his boxing career.
