Ange Postecoglou has expressed doubts that Mohamed Salah could replicate his goalscoring form at Liverpool if he were playing for Tottenham.
The Spurs manager believes Salah’s success at Anfield is closely linked to the team’s overall performance, something that isn’t quite working at Spurs right now.
Postecoglou highlighted that Salah thrives when his team is in top form, with plenty of chances being created for him to convert.
But he admits that Tottenham is currently struggling to offer that kind of service.
With their attackers not receiving the support they need, he believes it would be difficult for a player like Salah to perform at his usual level in the current Spurs setup.
Spurs Look to Solve Their Struggles as They Face Liverpool
The comments come ahead of Tottenham’s home game against Liverpool in the first leg of the Carabao Cup semi-finals.
With Salah sitting atop the Premier League’s scoring charts with 18 goals, he will be hoping to continue his red-hot form against Spurs’ unpredictable defense.
Postecoglou acknowledged Salah’s world-class ability, but emphasized that the current dynamics at Spurs wouldn’t allow him to be as impactful as he is at Liverpool.
“Mo is a world-class player, but if you put him in our team at the moment, I’m not sure he would have the same impact because of the situation we’re in as a group,” Postecoglou said, pointing to Tottenham’s lack of solid form and team cohesion.
Son Heung-min’s Future at Spurs Remains Bright Despite Current Struggles
Turning his attention to his own players, Postecoglou spoke about Son Heung-min, who recently signed a contract extension with Spurs through 2026.
Although Son hasn’t quite hit his usual prolific goal-scoring heights this season, Postecoglou remains confident in his abilities.
He compared Son’s situation to Salah’s, suggesting that Son would likely have a strong goal-scoring record if he were playing for a team like Liverpool, which is more fluid in its attacking play.
“We’re a team that’s very disrupted, that’s not playing with the fluency it can do.
And that has an effect,” Postecoglou explained, acknowledging the challenges the team has faced.
However, the Spurs manager remains optimistic that once the team finds its rhythm, Son’s goal-scoring prowess will return.
“When we’re at our best, I still think you’ll see Sonny’s return, in terms of his ability to score goals and be really effective for us. I don’t think that’s diminished at all.”
A Memorable Clash Between Spurs and Liverpool
The last encounter between Tottenham and Liverpool in December was a thrilling affair, with Liverpool emerging as 6-3 winners.
Salah netted twice in that game, and the upcoming clash promises to deliver more excitement for fans as both teams battle for a place in the Carabao Cup final.
