You might know Andy Murray as a tennis legend, but lately, he and his wife Kim have been exploring a different kind of passion: gardening.
While Kim is clearly the green thumb in the family, Andy admits he’s still getting the hang of it — and he’s quite honest about not being much of a gardener himself.
A Visit from Gardening Expert Monty Don
The couple recently invited Monty Don, the gardening guru from BBC’s Gardener’s World, to their Cromlix hotel in Dunblane, Perthshire.
Kim shared how her love for flowers and plants has inspired much of the landscaping around their luxury property.
Meanwhile, Andy was quick to joke about his own skills, saying, “I’m definitely not green fingered and actually I don’t even know what that means either.”
His lighthearted confusion had Kim laughing — and it’s clear he’s still warming up to the gardening world.
Kim’s Mission to Get Andy Interested
Despite Andy’s initial cluelessness, Kim is hopeful he’ll get into gardening eventually.
She told Monty Don that she’s already got him noticing her handiwork — including the 6,000 tulips she recently planted around their estate.
“He was not into art but I got him into art,” she said, “and he noticed my tulips this year.
Andy has more time on his hands now and he has a very curious mind, so I think one day he’ll get into it.”
From Chelsea Flower Show to a Thriving Kitchen Garden
Kim’s gardening journey started years ago when she was invited to the Royal Chelsea Flower Show back in 2013 — a special moment made even sweeter when a hosta plant was named after Andy.
She recalled proudly bringing home the “Andy Murray” hosta, only to watch it get “absolutely decimated by slugs really rapidly.”
But that didn’t deter her. Over time, she’s cultivated a beautiful kitchen garden at Cromlix, which now provides fresh cut flowers for their home as well as ingredients for their kitchen and bar.
