After spending five successful years with Mamelodi Sundowns, midfielder Andile Jali is preparing to leave the club.
The 33-year-old joined Sundowns in July 2018 as a free agent from Belgian topflight side KV Oostende, during the tenure of former coach Pitso Mosimane.
This week, Jali’s agent, Mike Makaab, reportedly confirmed his impending departure.
Jali Likely to Stay in the PSL
According to Makaab, Sundowns greatly appreciate the contributions Jali has made to the club, and he, in turn, values the warm reception he received.
During his time at the club, Jali even had the honor of wearing the captain’s armband.
However, Makaab did not reveal the specific destination where Jali will continue his football career next season, citing purely technical reasons for the decision.
Reports indicate that Jali ceased training with the Pretoria-based club a few months ago, leading to speculation about his future.
Unfortunately, he was unable to claim a winners’ medal for the DStv league when Sundowns were officially crowned champions of the 2022/23 season.
Jali was absent during the team’s celebration of their sixth consecutive championship title.
Jali’s Absence and Coach Mokwena’s Response
During the past season, Jali appeared in 12 DStv Premiership matches for Sundowns.
When questioned about Jali’s absence, head coach Rulani Mokwena chose not to provide details, referring to it as a club matter.
Mokwena, however, expressed satisfaction with the current squad ahead of the upcoming season, highlighting the team’s potential for improvement.
Awaiting Sundowns’ Statement on Jali’s Departure
As of now, Mamelodi Sundowns has not issued an official comment regarding Jali’s departure.
Fans and the football community eagerly anticipate further updates regarding the future of the midfielder.
Coach Mokwena’s focus remains on the squad’s strengths and the team’s progress for the upcoming season.
