In view of the distortion of socio-economic activities in the state, members of Anambra State Elders Council have called on Governor Willie Obiano to work in consonance with South East Governors, Traditional Rulers of Communities and other Community leaders in the state to join hands to end the stay -at – home orders by non-state actors.
Speaking through a nine point Communiqué at the end of their meeting at the Governor’s Lodge, Amawbia, Chairman of the Council and former Secretary General of the Commonwealth, Chief Emeka Anyaoku commended the level of security existing in the state, especially in comparison to other states in the Country.
The Council who lamented that the order by non-state actors has been stopping people from working, going to school and writing critical examinations, stressing that the orders are detrimental to ndi Anambra in particular and South East in general.
They observed that political parties have been peaceful and violence free, though there is an unacceptable level of personal abuse on the social media which they described as unhealthy for ndi Anambra and may lead to violence, urging people to continue with peaceful campaigns and elections, come November the 6th, 2021.
While calling on candidates and their supporters to shun personal abuse and focus their campaign on issues, relevant to the Peace and development of Anambra State, the Council prevailed on ndi Anambra to come out en masse and exercise their franchise by voting for the best candidate.
They however, congratulated Governor Obiano for the Anambra Cargo and Passenger Airport, Umueri as well as Anambra International Conference Center, Awka having toured the projects, stressing that they will continue to review impressive development projects in the State being put up by the Hover or, with a view of expressing their judgement in the final year of the Governor’s administration.
