Nigeria – Anambra State Commissioner of Police, CP Chris Owolabi has led a team of Police operatives on confidence building patrol within the state following the recent launch of “Operation Restore Peace” at Enugu State on May eighteenth 2021.
Correspondent, Chidinma Ikeanyionwu reports that among places visited were Abagana and Ogidi Divisional headquarters and Nkpor Junction, where some alleged armed robbers where lynched and burnt.
Interacting with traders, tricycle operators and some artisans, CP Owolabi thanked them for their assistance in apprehending suspected criminals even as he advised them to desist from taking the law into their hands but endeavour to take such suspects to the nearest Police Station.
He further noted that the essence of the patrol is to establish good human relationship between the police and communities to prevent crime and solve neighborhood problems which according to him, is their primary mandate.
Meanwhile, a transporter Anthony Onwuyili and a trader, who pleaded to remain anonymous , described Nkpor and environs as a notorious area for daylight robbery, pickpockets, obstruction by area boys and unknown people but expressed optimism that with the Police Commissioner’s visit will enthrone peace and orderliness.
Other places visited includ Upper Iweka by Lagos Park, Onitsha Bridge Head, Okpoko Divisional Headquarters, Zone 13 Ukpo, and INEC Office Awka, where CP Owolabi interacted with Police officers on duty.
Among the CP’s entourage were the Deputy Commissioner in charge of Operations DCP Salam Dogo, and his Finance and Administration counterpart, DCP Simeon Akpanudom among others.
