Anambra Commences 2nd Dose Of Phase Two COVID -19 Vaccination, Outbreak Response Against Polio

Anambra State Government has said that it will do everything within its reach to slowdown and disrupt the transmission of COVID-19 across the state.

The commissioner for Health, Dr Vincent Okpala restated this during a joint press briefing to commence the second dose of the phase two of COVID-19 vaccination and outbreak response against polio in Anambra State.

Correspondent David Okpokwasili reports that since March twenty-eight, 2021, Anambra State Government through the Ministry of Health and the Anambra State Primary Health Care Development Agency in collaboration with its local and international partners commenced the COVID-19 vaccination to prevent further spread of the global health emergency in the state.

According to the official figures by the Anambra State Primary Health Care Development Agency, more than eighty thousand Ndị Anambra have so far received either one of the two doses of the jab.

Thus, the commencement of the second dose of the phase two of the COVID-19 vaccination is intended to complete the dosage for those, who have received the first dose of the vaccination.

Speaking at the press briefing held at the Ministry of Health, Jerome Udoji State Secretariat, Awka, Dr Okpala said the vaccination, which commenced Wednesday October sixth, 2021 will last till Monday October twenty-fifth, 2021 across all the vaccination centers in the twenty-one local government areas of the state.

Dr Okpala also explained that one can call the Anambra State Public Health Emergency Operation Numbers:  09034668319 or 09034663273 to receive updates on the designated vaccination locations.

While urging stakeholders at various levels to support in the sensitization of the benefits and importance of the vaccine, Dr Okpala reminded politicians in the state to ensure that all COVID-19 protocols are observed in all their activities.

Speaking earlier, the Executive Secretary, Anambra State Primary Health Care Development Agency, Dr. Chioma Ezenyimulu, who said that the agency targets to reach every Onye Anambra and to ensure that the spread of COVID-19 is stopped in the state, thanked Governor Willie Obiano for giving the agency the political will and support to fulfill the mandate of the vaccination process.

For the state coordinator, World Health Organization, Dr Chukwumuanya Igboekwu, Anambra State Government has shown enough commitment to eradicate the COVID-19 from the state, and promised the support of the WHO and other international partners to the efforts of the state government.

The target population for the vaccination are persons from eighteen years and above, who have received the first dose of COVID-19 vaccine, health workers and other frontline workers, who are at a high risk of exposure, senior citizens with or without underlying health conditions such as diabetes, hypertension and those with previous record of COVID-19 infection but have now recovered.

Each of these categories are required to go with their cards to take the second dose.
