Justice Anyachebelu  assured of the determination of the state judiciary to lessen the sufferings of inmates awaiting trials at various correctional centers across the state.

Correspondent Emengini Osadebe reports that Justice Anyachebelu who disclosed that his visit was a routine exercise, said it is one of the responsibilities of any Chief Judge of a state to visit Correctional Centers once in a year, describing Onitsha center as the biggest out of the four centers in the state.

He regretted the burden of the inmates at these centers, attributing the delay to quick dispensation of Justice to various factors which security challenge is one of them.

The Chief Judge assured that the state judiciary will administratively ensure that the Correctional Centers are decongested by reducing the terms of stay of inmates in custody through hastening up of their cases.

On his part, the Deputy Comptroller in charge of the facility Mr Valentine Nwosu expressed gratitude to the Chief Judge for the visit saying that it has reduced the tension at the center.

Those whose cases have appeared before a law court and were adjourned to a date that is close , were asked to remain in custody as they will be tried in the regular court.
