Reflecting on Joost van der Westhuizen: Amor Vittone’s Heartfelt Tribute
Amor Vittone, deeply moved by the memory of her late husband Joost van der Westhuizen, has paid a touching tribute to the Springbok legend on the 8th anniversary of his death.
The moment marked a time of reflection and remembrance for Amor, who shared a life with Joost, their two children, and the memories they built together.
Their Life Together
Joost and Amor were married in December 2002, just a year after Joost’s divorce from his first wife, Marlene.
Over the years, their relationship faced several public challenges, including scandals surrounding accusations of infidelity, drug use, and the controversial way their relationship began.
However, despite the hurdles, the couple’s bond remained strong.
They were together for 15 years, during which they raised their children, Jordan and Kylie.
Tragically, Joost passed away on February 6, 2017, after a courageous battle with motor-neuron disease (MND).
He was a celebrated Springbok rugby player, earning 89 test caps and captaining 10 of them. His untimely death left a significant void in Amor’s life, but she has continued to honor his legacy, especially on milestones like the anniversary of his passing.
Amor’s Tribute on Social Media
In a heartwarming post shared on Facebook, Amor Vittone commemorated her late husband with a series of photographs, including one from their wedding day.
She captioned the post, “8 years ago today,” followed by a heartbroken emoji, a simple yet powerful reminder of the lasting impact Joost had on her life.
The Battle Over Joost’s Estate
After Joost’s death, a bitter dispute unfolded over his estate.
Joost had updated his will in 2015, appointing his brother, Pieter, as the executor.
His new will left his entire estate to their children, Jordan and Kylie, through a trust, while Amor received only a television set.
However, Amor contested this will, arguing that a 2009 joint will, where she was named Joost’s sole heir, should be upheld.
Amor sought to challenge the will in court, even petitioning the Supreme Court for permission to appeal.
In a 2018 social media post, Amor vowed to pursue the legal battle to the end, stating she would “appeal to death.
” The public battle over Joost’s legacy has continued to weigh heavily on her.
Financial Struggles and Public Disputes
In 2022, Amor opened up on social media about the emotional and financial toll of her ongoing struggle for Joost’s estate.
She revealed that she was facing severe financial difficulties, relying on support from her parents.
Sadly, her father, Dario, passed away soon after.
Joost’s brother, Pieter, denied her claims, stating that the estate was providing Amor with R20,000 per month to cover the expenses of raising their children.
A Legacy of Love and Legacy
Despite the controversies surrounding their personal lives and the legal battles that followed Joost’s death, Amor Vittone’s love for her late husband remains evident in her continued efforts to keep his memory alive.
Whether through her tributes on social media or her determination in the face of legal challenges, Amor honors the legacy of one of South Africa’s greatest rugby icons.
