Amor Vittone addresses harsh online backlash after sharing her appendix surgery experience in South Africa

We live in a time when sharing personal struggles online can either bring comfort or criticism—and Amor Vittone, beloved South African singer and widow of rugby legend Joost van der Westhuizen, knows this all too well.

Recently, she opened up about a health scare that landed her in the hospital.

While some fans rallied with love and support, others took a cruel turn, accusing her of being dramatic or attention-seeking.

Amor Hits Back After Appendix Emergency Is Mocked

Amor was hospitalized after suffering a burst appendix—a serious and painful medical emergency.

She decided to share her experience on Facebook, aiming to keep her fans in the loop.

But instead of just receiving well-wishes, some online voices accused her of trying to get media attention.

That hurt.

“I shared it on my social media pages for my fans and friends,” Amor explained, clearly frustrated.

“I didn’t run to any media house asking them to cover my story. That’s not what this was about.”

She admitted that the negativity affected her mood.

“It’s just ridiculous,” she said.

“It’s Hurtful, Especially Coming From Our Own”

Amor didn’t hold back when calling out the nasty comments, especially those coming from within the Afrikaans community.

“The way people attack each other—especially women attacking other women—is just sad,” she said.

“Every single day, it’s like watching people tear each other down.”

Instead of all the judgment, she made a heartfelt plea: “Just be kind. No one knows what others are going through. You don’t know what’s in someone’s heart.”

She added, “One little thing could be enough to push someone into a dark place. That’s not being human. That’s not being kind.”

And her final advice for the online critics?

“If you don’t like what someone shares, just scroll on. No need to be cruel.”

A Past Marked by Pain and Misunderstanding

This isn’t the first time Amor has spoken about being misunderstood.

In a video from 2022, she got real about the emotional and financial struggles she was facing behind closed doors.

At the time, she was in the midst of a legal fight over her late husband’s will, which left her with only a TV.

“It’s wild how people assume we have it all because we’re on TV or sing,” she said.

“We don’t. We cry. We feel lonely. We struggle, just like everyone else.”

She also revealed how much she depended on her parents for support, especially her late father, who has since passed away.

“They were the people I could run to and say, ‘Help.’ And now… things are different,” she shared softly.

Fans Still Love Her for Speaking Her Truth

Despite the hate, Amor continues to speak her truth—sharing the ups and downs with honesty and heart.

If you’re one of the fans who appreciate her courage, let her know.

And maybe next time someone shares something vulnerable online, we all take a breath and choose kindness over criticism.
