Amber Davies, the 28-year-old star who rose to fame after winning Love Island in 2017, recently found herself defending her work schedule after some trolls took aim at her for starting her work year late.
On Instagram, Amber posted a mirror selfie showing her back at the Universal Music Group studios, where she is believed to be recording her podcast, Call to Stage.
She captioned the photo, “First working day of 2025,” followed by, “Time to buckle up.”
Defending Her Well-Deserved Break
While Amber appeared excited about getting back to work, some people took issue with her waiting until the 20th day of the new year to return.
One comment, accompanied by eye roll emojis, read: “Imagine going over half the month without working.”
Amber quickly addressed the comment, writing over a screenshot of the response.
She explained that she had earned a break, having spent an entire year living out of a suitcase during a demanding tour.
“I lived out of a suitcase on tour for a whole year with no day off in sight, doing 8 shows a week,” she stated, adding that she had also worked right up until Christmas.
“Don’t judge my unemployed downtime.”
The Reality of Self-Employment
In a follow-up video, Amber elaborated on the challenges of being self-employed.
She explained that while she did take time off, she would have worked if the opportunities were available.
“I literally love the internet. Everyone’s like, ‘You don’t need to justify yourself.’
And I’m like, ‘Justify myself for being self-employed?'” she said.
“Yes, I’ve had half of the month off, but if the work was there, I would have worked.”
She added a message of support for others who are self-employed, captioning the video, “Love to the self-employed xxx.”
A Glimpse into Her Personal Life
Amber also recently shared a video of her boyfriend, Ben Joyce, hitting a high note during a performance of “Defying Gravity,” which she posted on her TikTok.
The video quickly went viral, with fans commenting on Ben’s impressive performance.
Amber and Ben, who have been together for two years, frequently share sweet moments on social media, showcasing their close relationship.
Amber has previously spoken about how their friendship developed before romance, saying, “I fell in love with his mind before anything else.”
Reflecting on Her Past Relationships
Amber’s love life has had its ups and downs.
Before dating Ben, she had a brief six-month relationship with fellow Love Island star Kem Cetinay, which ended after the show, and later had an on-and-off relationship with businessman Nick Kyriacou.
Despite the challenges, it’s clear Amber values the strong and loving connection she shares with Ben.
