Amazon Prime Members Lose Access to Try Before You Buy Service as it Ends Today January 31 in the US

Amazon Prime members have just a few hours left to take advantage of the Try Before You Buy service, which is set to end today, January 31, 2025.

This popular benefit allowed Prime subscribers to try on select clothing, shoes, and accessories at home before finalizing their purchases.

However, it seems that this convenient feature is coming to a close, leaving many shoppers feeling let down.

Shoppers Express Disappointment Over the Service’s End

The news of the service’s discontinuation has drawn a wave of disappointment from customers, with many expressing their frustration online.

One Reddit user shared, “Shame. I’ve been using it for the first time to make sure I got the right fit for some work shoes.

It’s been quite convenient.” Another echoed similar sentiments, saying, “It’s too bad the feature is disappearing.

I used it many times to try on clothing.”

While some shoppers mourned the loss of the service, not everyone was as invested.

A few users admitted they weren’t particularly fond of the service, with one saying, “I think it’s too much of a pain in the a** to try before you buy.”

Others had seen this decision coming, with one person commenting, “I called this! No bras were available there for the last 6-8 months, and I guessed they’d be shutting it down.”

Why Amazon is Phasing Out Try Before You Buy

Earlier this month, Amazon explained the reasoning behind the decision to end the program. According to an Amazon spokesperson, the service struggled to reach a broad customer base, and as shoppers increasingly turned to AI-powered tools for better sizing recommendations, it made sense to phase out the Try Before You Buy option.

“Given the combination of Try Before You Buy only scaling to a limited number of items and customers increasingly using our new AI-powered features like virtual try-on, personalized size recommendations, review highlights, and improved size charts to make sure they find the right fit, we’re phasing out the Try Before You Buy option,” the spokesperson said.

A Brief History of Try Before You Buy

The Try Before You Buy program, originally launched as Prime Wardrobe, first began testing in 2017 and officially launched in 2018.

It allowed Prime members to order up to six apparel items, try them on at home, and return unwanted items within seven days without being charged.

The service competed with other personal styling services like Stitch Fix and Rent the Runway, offering a similar experience for customers who wanted to try clothes before committing.

What’s Next for Amazon Prime Members?

While the Try Before You Buy service is ending, Amazon will still offer free returns on eligible products delivered to US addresses.

Shoppers can return items through the “Your Orders” section, selecting the return option and explaining the reason for the return.

They can then drop off the item at a designated location that supports label or box-free returns.

If customers choose to return products via postal service, the return shipping cost will be deducted from their refund.

Amazon Discontinues Another Popular Prime Perk

This change comes just a month after Amazon cut another beloved Prime feature—same-day delivery from select physical stores.

Unlike traditional Prime deliveries, which come from Amazon warehouses, this service allowed customers to receive items from local retailers like Staples and Petco.

Prime members enjoyed the service for free on orders over $25, while non-Prime customers faced varying fees based on the retailer.

Amazon explained the removal of this service by citing “overlap” with its other delivery options, showing that the company is continually adjusting its offerings to better serve its customers.
