Farmers Tasks Osun Government On Provision Of Farm Inputs During Rainy Season

Nigeria – Farmers in Osun State have called on the state government to assist in providing farm inputs during the rainy season to boost productivity.

Chairman, All Farmers Association of Nigeria (AFAN), Ife East Chapter, Mrs. Teniade Aderemi voiced the needs of the farmers recently at the Governor’s Family Meeting.

The meeting was organized by the Office of the Special Adviser on Civic Engagement at Oba Okunade Sijuade’s Memorial Hall, Enuwa, Ile-Ife.

According to Aderemi, the provision of farm inputs would not only expand agriculture productivity but also enhance agro-economic development.

She urged the government to provide additional tractors, synthetic fertilizers, seedlings, irrigation, among other necessary input that would enhance productivity.

“It’s high time the government intensifies relentless efforts in ensuring food security in the state as this could be well achieved through adequate empowerment for us farmers.

“In addition to the supply of more farm inputs by the government, is the need to fortify the agricultural value chain for the mutual benefit of the state and the farmers,” she added.

On his part, former deputy governor, Sooko Adeleke Adewoyin echoed Aderemi’s plea stating that Osun was an agrarian state with a large population involved in farming, hence the need for the government to meet their needs.

He, however, assured farmers that their requests would be considered because Oyetola is keen on revamping agriculture in the state.

“It is crystal clear that Oyetola has demonstrated an uncommon sense of duty and patriotism in contributing to the well-being of the people, especially the implementation of populist programs and infrastructural development in the state.

“It then behooves on all right-thinking individuals in the state to support him beyond 2022,” he added.

Responding, Special Adviser on Civic Engagement, Hon. Olatunbosun Oyintiloye, who represented Governor Oyetola said the purpose of the meeting was the tender listening ears to the needs of the people.

He assured farmers in the state that all their demands would be adequately considered.VoN
