After a long and eventful career in European football, former Arsenal midfielder Aaron Ramsey appears ready to start a new adventure across the Atlantic.

Reports suggest he has agreed to join Mexican club Club Universidad Nacional, commonly known as the Pumas.

A Tough End to Cardiff Managerial Stint

Ramsey’s recent time at Cardiff City saw him step into the caretaker manager role for the final three games of the season.

He was brought in to try and save the club from relegation after Omer Riza was sacked.

Unfortunately, Ramsey’s efforts didn’t quite pay off, as two draws and a loss meant Cardiff still dropped down a division.

Contract Situation and Managerial Future at Cardiff

With Ramsey’s playing contract set to expire at the end of June, Cardiff have been uncertain about offering him a permanent managerial position.

The delay in decision-making has seemingly closed the door on that possibility, especially with news emerging that Ramsey is preparing to move to Mexico.

Coaching Roots and Arsenal Glory Days

Before stepping up to manage the senior Cardiff squad, Ramsey had been working with their academy, helping to develop the next generation of players.

It’s a natural transition from his impressive playing days, most notably with Arsenal, where he spent a decade between 2009 and 2019.

During his time at the Gunners, Ramsey was a midfield mainstay under Arsène Wenger, racking up 369 appearances and scoring 64 goals.

He also earned a special place in fans’ hearts by helping Arsenal win two FA Cups, scoring in both finals — moments that defined his legacy at the club.

Later Career and Injury Struggles

After Arsenal, Ramsey’s career took him to big clubs like Juventus, Rangers, and Nice.

He eventually returned to Cardiff in 2023 to see out his playing days.

Unfortunately, injuries limited his impact last season, with a hamstring problem restricting him to just 11 appearances across all competitions.
