A boat capsized on the Hudson River in New York City leaves several people critically injured

On Tuesday, a boat capsized on the Hudson River in New York City, gravely injuring many persons.

Emergency services, as well as harbour, aviation, and dive units, were called in to help save the nine persons who were apparently onboard a private recreational sailboat.

The incident occurred at 3 p.m. near Pier 84, according to the New York Police Department and NY Waterways, when the boat entirely tipped over into the river.

According to a spokeswoman for NY Waterways, two of its ferries participated in the rescue of all nine individuals onboard the overturned ship.

According to ABC 7, two persons were in serious condition: a seven-year-old child who was transported to Bellevue Hospital and a woman in her twenties who was transported to Roosevelt Hospital.

In a statement, NY Waterways wrote: ‘NY Waterway responded to an emergency when a private boat overturned in the Hudson River, just north of the Pier 79 Midtown ferry terminal. Two NY Waterway ferries, the Garden State and the John Stevens, arrived on the scene and their crews rescued 9 passengers from the private boat.’

Officials said that, while the rescue had an impact on some ferry lines, all routes have resumed regular operation.
