A 12 year old boy diagnosed with a type of brain tumor dies few days after his family holiday

A 12-year-old boy, Edward Hunstone, died in hospital in February 2021 after his family received a phone call while on holiday at Center Parcs informing them that he needed to go to the hospital.
Edward had been diagnosed with grade two pilomyxoid astrocytoma – a type of brain tumour – when he was three years old after being randomly sick, but it was initially thought to be a food intolerance.

After discovering a mass on his brain, he underwent chemotherapy for eight years. In 2020, he required a shunt to draw fluid away from his brain, and in 2021 he lost vision in his right eye.

While on a break at Center Parcs in January 2021, Edward’s family received a call from the hospital informing them that he needed to undergo a bone marrow biopsy.

The procedure was performed on January 18, and the next day the family was told that Edward had acute myeloid leukaemia.

Edward was hospitalised and remained there until he passed away on February 22.

His family described him as a little nutter but also very sweet, taking time to make decisions about what to spend his pocket money on and being generous to others.

Edward loved arts, crafts, and going on night drives. His family now wants to give him the best send-off possible and has set up a GoFundMe page to help with fundraising.
