Jay North, the actor best known for his role as the mischievous Dennis Mitchell in the classic CBS sitcom Dennis the Menace, passed away on Sunday at the age of 73.
He died peacefully at his home in Lake Butler, Florida, after a long battle with colorectal cancer.

News of North’s passing was shared by his close friend, Laurie Jacobson, on Facebook. Jacobson, who had remained in touch with the actor throughout his life, reflected on his difficult journey both in Hollywood and beyond.
“As many of his fans know, he had a difficult journey in Hollywood and after… but he did not let it define his life,” Jacobson wrote.
“He had a heart as big as a mountain, loved his friends deeply, and ended every conversation with ‘I love you with all my heart.'”
She added that, although they would miss him deeply, his suffering had ended, and he was finally at peace.
A Friendship That Lasted Decades
Jon Provost, known for his role as the beloved Timmy in Lassie, also paid tribute to his long-time friend on Facebook.
Provost, who had known North for nearly 70 years, expressed his sorrow: “You did suffer a lot more than most, but you were a great guy, Jay, and I miss you with all my heart.”
Provost acknowledged the struggles North had endured over the years but found comfort in knowing his friend was now at peace.
A Devoted Family in His Final Moments
TMZ reported that North’s health had worsened in the weeks leading up to his death.
He was surrounded by his loving wife, Cindy, and his stepdaughters during his final moments.
According to reports, North had always yearned for a close family, having grown up as an only child who never knew his father.
His stepdaughters provided him with the family he had longed for, and their support meant the world to him in his final days.

North, who had transitioned into a career as a juvenile correctional officer, was known to have received hundreds of letters from fans during the Christmas holiday.
