Director Luca Guadagnino of “Bones and All” revealed he always intended to cast Timothée Chalamet in his next picture.

Chalamet rose to fame after participating in the 2017 smash film “Call Me By Your Name” directed by Guadagnino. Taylor Russell plays Maren, a cannibal who embarks on a voyage of self-discovery in “Bones and All,” a film based on the 2015 novel of the same name.

During a red carpet appearance for “Bones and All” at the London Film Festival on Saturday, Guadagnino told Insider that he “immediately” knew he would cast Chalamet as Lee, a fellow cannibal who travels with Maren and falls in love with her.

“I was halfway through the script when I felt Lee enter the page, and I thought, ‘That’s Timothee,'” said the 51-year-old director.

David Kajganich, writer and producer of the next film, told Insider that he wasn’t certain Chalamet would portray Lee until Guadagnino became involved.

“I try not to write with anyone in mind, but as soon as Luca was involved, he remarked, ‘I know who to contact first.'” “When Luca and I do a picture together, we work closely with the actors once they are cast. We review the scripts and make minor adjustments to them. Therefore, we began to move it in Timmy’s and Taylor’s directions.”

He said, “I would not have dared to imagine [that] in the past.”

During a recent interview with Vanity Fair, Guadagnino praised Chalamet’s acting development.

“Timothée was almost a kamikaze throughout the filming of “Call Me by Your Name,” in my opinion. He was on the verge of exploding and ready to move in any direction, with a great feeling of drive “Guadagnino remarked. “When we were working on ‘Bones and All,’ I believe the intuition was there, but he also contributed a lot of amazing ideas and intricacy that added to what was already on the page.”

He continued, “You could see, four years apart, how the boy became the man and how the intuition became the intellect, but at the same time, how he was really glad and willing to be seen by the camera in a completely unrestricted manner, despite being a global superstar.”

The film “Bones and All” debuts in theaters on November 23.
