Health Editor of the Year was Barney Calman

The health editor of The Mail on Sunday won the highest prize at the yearly “Oscars” of medical journalism.

The Medical Journalists’ Association honoured Barney Calman with the Health Editor of the Year award, which recognises “excellent examples of health and medical journalism.”

After Covid limitations were repealed, he spearheaded the newspaper’s effort to get GPs to resume face-to-face patient visits.

The MoS health section launched a snappy campaign on the persistent issue, completely in line with readers’ worries, and with a flood of heartbreaking anecdotes from them, according to the judges.

They continued by saying that our coverage “demonstrated how to conduct a successful campaign – with dedication and vigour.”

Rosie Taylor, who received Freelancer of the Year for her research for the MoS on the illegal substance co-proxamol, was among those honoured at the awards.

Our GP writer Dr. Ellie Cannon’s essay on her experience with antidepressants earned her a “highly commended” award in the category of Mental Health Story of the Year.
