Zitha Kwinika has described the pain he and his Kaizer Chiefs colleagues are experiencing as they continue to struggle this season in Durban.

Amakhosi have had a disappointing start to the 2022-23 season despite a busy transfer market that generated excitement and anticipation for the next season.

The team of new coach Arthur Zwane has achieved just two wins, two draws, and three loses in their first seven Premiership matches, placing them narrowly above the relegation zone in 14th place with just eight points and drawing much criticism from the club’s fans.

Kwinika, a graduate of the Chiefs’ youth system, disclosed that interactions with the club’s fans have gotten increasingly challenging as the players share the emotional loads imposed upon them by fans.

“We understand with their situation, and it pains us. When someone tells you, “I can’t sleep, whatever you’re doing, I’m not pleased,” it hurts because we are a part of their journey, Kwinika told the Chiefs’ media department.

“However, I can assure the fans that we comprehend where we are and what we must do. This constitutes our work. We are here to work, to provide for our families, and to represent the brand, as the badge is the most important thing and we recognize its significance.

“This is not the log’s actual reflection. Two wins will put us on top. I believe that other clubs have played eight games, and while games in hand do not equal points, if we win those games we’ll be back on top where we belong, and we’ll make them happy this season.”

On Sunday, the 28-year-old scored his first goal for his childhood club in a 1-1 tie against Marumo Gallants on the road.

Kwinika claimed he was relieved to find the back of the net, as he was directly responsible for the team’s eighth goal allowed this season.

“It was bittersweet at the time. It could have been better, but I think that everything happens for a purpose. I think that after the error, there was a part of me that felt compelled to remedy the situation, since obviously you want points and results.
