Thursday at Balmoral Castle, the longest-reigning queen in British history, Queen Elizabeth II passed away. Buckingham Palace has long prepared for the aftermath of the queen’s passing. According to reports, the plan for if her death occurred in Scotland was called “Operation Unicorn.”

Multiple stops will be made on the Queen’s final journey from her place of death in Scotland to her final resting place in London.

The coffin of the Queen will be readied to lie in state, which means it will be displayed for public inspection so that people may pay their respects. In Westminster Hall, her body will lie in state. There will be a brief ceremony to mark the arrival of the casket, after which visitors will be allowed to pay their respects. The spokesman stated that the hall will be open 24 hours a day, with the exception of a single hour.

Justin Welby, the archbishop of Canterbury and second-most prominent member in the Church of England, will lead the Queen’s funeral ceremony (after the monarch).

The Telegraph reports that following the service, Queen Elizabeth II will be interred in the King George VI memorial chapel in Windsor.
