Veronica Maher, the widow of gangland victim Jason Hennessy Snr, has appeared in court facing multiple charges following a complex investigation into drugs and money laundering.
Maher, 54, is accused of releasing a dangerous XL Bully dog to attack police officers during an investigation related to an organized crime group in West Dublin.
Background on Jason Hennessy’s Murder
Jason Hennessy Snr, a notorious figure from the Blanchardstown Mob, was tragically killed in a gangland shooting on Christmas Eve 2023 at Browne’s Steakhouse in Blanchardstown, Dublin.
The 48-year-old father-of-ten was part of a feud with the rival Gucci Gang, which ultimately led to his death.
His murder was followed by the violent death of one of his attackers, who was beaten and stabbed by bystanders. Hennessy had been under investigation for money laundering and was well-known to law enforcement.
The Charges Against Veronica Maher
Maher’s court appearance stems from ongoing investigations into her involvement in criminal activities.
The charges against her include deliberately letting her XL Bully dog loose on March 28, causing it to chase police officers who were on patrol in the area. The officers reportedly fled in fear of the dog.
She is also charged with possessing a €10 marked note used in an undercover operation to purchase illegal drugs at her home on April 3.
Furthermore, Maher faces charges of threatening to kill or cause serious harm to Garda Joseph Doherty on March 28, as well as possession of €1,350 in cash, believed to be proceeds from criminal activity.
Court Appearance and Bail Conditions
At Blanchardstown District Court, Maher appeared wrapped in a blue blanket, wearing black Ugg slippers. She did not address the court during the brief hearing.
Her bail conditions prohibit her from having any restricted breed dogs at her residence, and she must ensure that the back door of her home is used for emergency access only.
Maher is also barred from engaging in the sale or supply of controlled substances.
Her case has been adjourned until July 22 for further proceedings.
Charges Against Other Individuals
Alongside Maher, her daughter Jade Hennessey, 32, and her associate Kayleigh McEntee, 26, were also brought to court on related charges.
Hennessey is accused of possessing cocaine for sale or supply and €1,575 in proceeds from crime.
McEntee faces charges of possessing €6,875 in criminal proceeds.
Both women had their cases adjourned until July 22 and were granted bail, subject to signing on at Blanchardstown Garda Station three times a week and providing contact information.
Looking Ahead
As the investigation into the activities of the Blanchardstown Mob continues, these court appearances mark a significant moment in a larger crackdown on organized crime in the area.
