Nottingham Forest sign the most players in one transfer window

Nottingham Forest returned to the Premier League after a 23-year hiatus, and after signing an English record 21 players in a single summer transfer window, they were desperate to remain in the top level.

On Thursday, the newly promoted team sealed agreements for Wolverhampton Wanderers center back Willy Boly, Blackpool winger Josh Bowler (loaned to Olympiakos), and Rennes defender Loic Bade.

According to the website Transfermarkt, the previous English record for the most signings in one transfer window was set by Crystal Palace with 17 in the summer of 2013.

Forest, who were promoted through the Championship playoffs, have spent close to $173 million reconstructing a squad decimated by the departures of five free agents and five players on loan.

The East Midlands club broke its transfer record to recruit Morgan Gibbs-White for a rumoured initial cost of 25 million pounds. The club also broke its transfer record to sign Taiwo Awoniyi and Neco Williams for 18 million pounds apiece.

Jesse Lingard, an English international, arrived on a free transfer, while Manchester United goalkeeper Dean Henderson and Atletico Madrid left defender Renan Lodi joined on loan.

Forest are 15th in the league rankings heading into Saturday’s trip to Everton, having earned four points from their first five games under manager Steve Cooper.
