Hopes for a Formula One race in South Africa in 2023 are dead

Stavelot – On Monday, it was announced that South Africa will not host a Formula One event in 2023, after the announcement that the Belgian Grand Prix will remain on the 2022 F1 schedule.

Speculation had circulated that South Africa will host an F1 event for the first time in 30 years in place of Belgium, but Sunday’s announcement of the 2023 schedule confirmed that the Rainbow Nation would not be added to the calendar.

Warren Scheckter, CEO of SA Grand Prix, stated to BusinessLIVE, “Most of the material in the published publications is inaccurate.” Unfortunately, I am unable to disclose specifics, but there will be no South African Grand Prix in 2023.”

Formula One said in a statement: “Formula One can confirm that the Belgian Grand Prix will be on the 2023 calendar as a result of an agreement to extend our collaboration,” before to the 55th running of the race.

This week, Formula One chief executive Stefano Domenicali cautioned against premature reports of the race’s elimination.

While Spa will return, the likelihood of a race at the Kyalami track in South Africa has diminished.

Formula One has not yet released the complete 2023 schedule, which is anticipated to feature a record 24 events. This year’s tournament consists of 22 rounds.

“Additional information regarding the 2023 schedule will be released in due time,” the sport said.
