According to testimony given in court today, Ryan Giggs’ ex-girlfriend informed a friend that bruises on her wrist were the result of “hard sex” the previous evening with the former football player.
A day after an alleged assault at a hotel in Dubai in 2017, Kate Greville met her friend and boss Elsa Roodt. Greville claims she was ‘dragged out of her room naked’ after accusing the former Manchester United star of seeing another woman.
PR director Ms. Roodt informed Manchester Crown Court today via a TV link from Dubai that she met with Ms. Greville the following day in her office.
She (Ms. Greville) was very upset, according to Ms. Roodt. She had been sobbing intermittently, and I saw bruises on her arm. I noticed them.
She was questioned by prosecutor Peter Wright QC: “Did you talk to her about the bruises on her arm when you saw them?”
“Yes, I asked her where she acquired the bruises,” Ms. Roodt retorted. She added, “She said they ended up having quite rough sex after the argument they had, and the bruises were from that.”
Ms. Roodt, who at the time had hired Ms. Greville to work in the Abu Dhabi office of her PR firm, claimed that in February 2020 while visiting Dubai, she once more noticed bruises on Ms. Greville’s arm.
Ms. Greville, according to her, had been sobbing “all night.” She stated: “She was furious. She gave off a sorrowful vibe. On her arm, there were bruises.
The PR director said that Ms. Greville informed her that “Ryan got physical with her the night before at the hotel” this time.
Former Wales player Ryan Giggs, 48, is accused of physically harming his ex-girlfriend PR professional Kate Greville on November 1, 2020, at his £1.7 million house in Worsley, Greater Manchester.
On the same day, he is also accused of assaulting Ms. Greville’s younger sister, Emma Greville, and of using coercive or controlling behaviour during their six-year on-and-off relationship.
Ms. Roodt had previously explained how Giggs’ email was so “heated” that she had to contact the company’s internet provider to ban it. She claimed: “We had no choice but to restrict his emails since it was interfering with her job.”
When Ms. Greville initially moved to Abu Dhabi and was separated from Giggs, Ms. Roodt said that she began to “really come out of her shell,” adding that “she was pretty effervescent, really joyful and we went out.”
But when Ms. Greville and Giggs started dating again, Ms. Roodt said, “She looked a lot more anxious.” Her social behaviour was much less. We weren’t with her for very long.
You said that she seemed anxious; how did it show itself, Mr. Wright QC continued? What kind of behaviour is that?”
When asked what she would be like without her phone, Ms. Roodt said, “She would be utterly fascinated with it and always accessible.”
However, Ms. Roodt said that her colleague felt “lighter, happier” when the relationship ended.
Chris Daw QC, who was defending Giggs and cross-examining Ms. Greville, asked Ms. Roodt whether she knew if Ms. Greville and Giggs regularly engaged in “hard sex,” but she replied that she was unsure.
Ms. Roodt acknowledged that she had only ever met Mr. Giggs “maybe three times” and that she had never seen any disputes between Ms. Greville and him.
One of those instances, according to Ms. Roodt, was a wedding attended by friends of Ms. Greville in Spain in 2017. When Ms. Roodt was asked whether Giggs was “friendly, gregarious, and nice” there, she said, “Yes.”
It follows the police bodycam video of Giggs being detained on Friday after informing cops that he slapped his ex-girlfriend Kate “in the lip” and being captured on camera.
The couple clashed over their five-month-old golden retriever, “Mac,” during dinner earlier that evening after PR professional Ms. Greville “accused” him of “couple of things.” After leaving the house alone, they continued their argument there.
Over the course of their six-year on-and-off relationship, Ms. Greville previously testified in court that she had discovered evidence on an iPad showing that Giggs had ‘full-on’ relationships with eight other women. She first informed police at the scene that the number was as high as 12.
When the officer arrived to the former Wales midfielder’s residence, Giggs, who acknowledged drinking that evening, had “blood around his lips.” The officer described how he discovered Ms. Greville “visibly disturbed” and seated on the kitchen floor.
In the video, Giggs, who is seen wearing a white shirt with a bloodstain on it, reacts by saying that he and Ms. Greville, 38, went out for dinner and “a few drinks in town” while her sister watched after their dog at home.
The ex-Wales midfielder claims to have requested his ex-partner to leave the house after a disagreement, and the two had “gotten into a little bit of a tangle.”
Then, he claims to the police that there was a “fight on the floor” when he attempted to take her phone during the incident. According to Giggs’ police report, “she kicked me” and “busted my lip.”
In the video, Giggs is heard telling the policeman, “We got into a fight and she said I’m taking the dog. Our new dog is now in the garage. That kind of stuff, “He’s my puppy, no it’s not he’s mine.”
He then admits to taking Ms Greville’s cellphone and telling the officer that he ‘stupidly’ refused to give it back. He then claims to have slapped Ms Greville in the lip and that she kicked him in the head and busted his lip.
Later bodycam video shows the officer admonishing Giggs, who seems composed and is not restrained, before leading him to a police vehicle and placing him in the back.
The jury heard two dramatic 999 calls on Friday that were made after the alleged attack by the football player. As her sister replies, “There’s blood everywhere,” Ms. Greville can be heard screaming in the background, “Oh my goodness it’s so horrible.”
When the 999 phone taker asks who the accused perpetrator is, Emma responds, “Ryan Giggs.” football player Ryan Giggs.
The phone representative then responds, shocked, “The Ryan Giggs?”
It follows Ms. Greville’s denial last week, when she was being cross-examined by Giggs’s attorneys, that she had “intended” to get pregnant with his kid as their relationship came to an end.
Messages between Ms. Greville and a friend were read in court, and one of them had the phrase “I am not going away with nothing.”
She also explained to Giggs that she was going to the hospital to have her contraceptive coil removed since “cancerous cells” had been found during a smear test.
Chris Daw QC, the attorney for Giggs, stated: “Your goal was to get pregnant via Mr. Giggs.” No, definitely not, Ms. Greville said.
On Friday, the fifth day of the trial, a tape of Emma Greville’s 999 call to the police in response to the alleged attack on her sister was shown to the jury.
When the phone taker asks Emma why she is calling, she responds, “Assault.” She has been headbutted.
Then, sobbing, swearing, and a fight between Giggs and Ms. Greville can be heard in the background.
Emma then requests: “Can you arrive quickly?” The phone taker then inquires: “Does she need an ambulance?”
Emma continues on the tape by saying, “He just headbutted her in the face.”
What? I’m saying anything I f***ing want to, Ryan. My sister has been headbutted by you. Even if your kid is 17, I don’t give a damn about her.
What’s he called, the call handler then queries? Ryan Giggs, Emma was prompted to respond. Then, in the distance, Giggs can be heard shouting something inaudible. You just headbutted my sister, so it will be on the news, she responds.
Then, Giggs can be heard in the distance stating, “She’s a maniac.” She is insane. Police inquire as to the cause of the sobbing after hearing it in the background.
Emma responds, “She’s in agony,” which prompts the phone taker to inquire, “Why?” Because he headbutted her, Emma explains.
Police later inquire, “What is his name?” Ryan Giggs, Emma responds. football player Ryan Giggs. Next, the phone representative asks, “The Ryan Giggs?” Yes, Emma. Can you please arrive soon?
PC Billington, one of the officers on duty, also testified in court.
Peter Wright QC, the prosecution, questioned PC Billington after he had seen the footage.
“Mr Giggs was then removed to the police cars, and led to the police station, the court,” said Mr. Wright QC. That’s right, PC Billington said.
Did you get the idea he had been drinking when you talked to him, Mr. Wright QC continued?
The policeman said, “I thought he was inebriated.”
PC Billington said when asked how he had come to that conclusion, “His delayed answer to my queries and his eyes were little unfocused.”
PC Billington was questioned by defence attorney Marianne Alton during cross-examination about whether or not he maintained composure.
Billington concurred, PC.
Mr. Giggs’ lack of intoxication was not contested by the defence, but Ms. Alton questioned Pc. Billington: “But he wasn’t staggering about?”
The officer said, “No.” He talked clearly, she added.
“He answered clearly, absolutely,” PC Billington said.
Police body-cam video of Ms. Greville speaking to officers after the alleged assault was played to the jury on Friday.
In the video, she says to the police, “I discovered he had been having extramarital affairs with 10 or twelve women for the previous six years.” I discovered his iPad and kept it to myself for two weeks because every time I found anything, it grew worse. Giggs allegedly started “flipping his s**t” and hitting Ms. Greville when she challenged him, according to Ms. Greville.
She admitted to police in a subsequent interview that he had eight further “full-on relationships that had gone on continually from 2014” on the first day of his trial this week.
The information became public when the defence team for the former Manchester United player accused Ms. Greville of stopping her contraception in a scheme to get pregnant by him.
She refuted assertions made by the footballer’s attorneys that she “intended to get pregnant” when their relationship ended, the court was told.
Ms. Greville acknowledged lying to Giggs about having malignant cells found in a smear test on Friday during cross-examination in order to “avoid having intercourse with him.”
She sent a pal a message after their relationship ended, saying: “I am not going away with nothing,” despite rumours that she was attempting to conceive his child.
The texts were written after the PR professional reportedly discovered proof on Giggs’ iPad that he had engaged in “full-on” relationships with eight other women throughout their relationship and started to “plan” his departure.
The court was informed of how Ms. Greville messaged a friend in October 2020, writing, “I need a strategy,” after discovering the communications. Christopher Daw QC, who is Giggs’ attorney and is 48 years old, referred to the message and questioned Ms. Greville, “What were you talking about?”
“I needed a strategy to go away in secret so he couldn’t locate me, so he wouldn’t bother me,” Ms. Greville said to the court. and how to tell him how I learned all of that information.
And going away (with nothing), Mr. Daw said. In response, Ms. Greville said, “I’m talking about my dog. Without a doubt, simply the dog. Your goal was to get pregnant via Mr. Giggs, Mr. Daw said. No, definitely not, Ms. Greville said.
The court was also told about a message Ms. Greville sent to a friend informing her that she was having her contraceptive coil removed that week. The court heard that after telling Giggs she was going to the hospital after a smear test revealed “cancerous cells,” Ms. Greville later underwent the coil removal.
The reality is you were going to have your contraception out, Chris Daw stated.
I was getting my coil out and I also wanted an STD test, Ms. Greville stated in court. He needed to get off my back. I regret saying these things so much, but I had to speak up to get him to stop bothering me and leave me alone.
The truth, according to Mr. Daw, is that there was no medical emergency that required the coil to be removed. No medical urgency existed, Ms. Greville said, but the coil needed to be removed since it was nearing its conclusion.
“I wouldn’t have to have sex with him if I said I had malignant cells,” she said.
I am going to suggest you were having active, regular, and very enthusiastic sex with Mr. Giggs at this time, including when you had this coil removed, Mr. Daw said in reference to texts exchanged between the two. I disagree, Ms. Greville said.
It follows testimony from Ms. Greville, who said that Giggs kicked her in the back so forcefully that she “went off the bed” when they were both staying at the Stafford Hotel in London in December 2019.
Ms. Greville had earlier claimed that Giggs had kicked her out of their room during the altercation and had then “thrown a laptop” at her head.
The PR professional previously testified in Giggs’ trial at Manchester Crown Court about an incident in which the defendant threw her naked down a hallway in a hotel in Dubai in September 2017.
