A senior DA member leaves the party to join ActionSA!

August is generally when the ‘Transfer Window’ in football begins, enabling clubs to trade players and reshuffle their rosters. Nonetheless, it seems that South African politicians are following suit, since this top DA member is already in negotiations to join Herman Mashaba’s ActionSA party.

Patricia Kopane joined the DA about two decades ago and has served as both an MP and the Free State provincial leader for the party. Kopane has admitted, however, that she no longer feels the party has the same goals as when she initially joined.

The defection MP, who has a background in the healthcare profession, served in the National Assembly for thirteen years. However, Kopane now believes “she does not belong in the DA.” Despite her reasons being mainly ambiguous, it seems that a significant divide has arisen.

The leaving DA member would ‘start a discussion’ with Herman Mashaba, who also abruptly departed the Blues almost three years ago. As ActionSA seeks to grow its national presence, it is probable that they will give the political veteran a top position within their ranks.

ActionSA is in “discussions” with a former DA member.

ActionSA stormed the 2021 Local Elections and showed to be a popular option in every area in which they ran. The organization is now a member of coalition administrations in a number of towns, and there are early indications that these “Actioners” might be kingmakers in 2024.

This is a trip Patricia Kopane want to go on, and this new chapter may begin “before the end of the week.”

“I’ve made the choice to resign from the DA. The truth is that I no longer consider the DA to be the political organization I joined in 2003. I do not feel at home here, but I wish the best to the many wonderful individuals who remain in the party.”

“At this moment, I cannot conceive of leaving politics. In the next days, I will thus contact ActionSA in an effort to join this exciting new party. In doing so, I shall initiate discussions with Herman Mashaba to determine my position within the party. | Patricia Kopane
