Vegans are criticised for spilling milk at Harrods, hurting ‘poor employees’

Following an anti-dairy demonstration in which an activist group dumped milk all over the floor of Harrods, vegans said that the demonstrators had “embarrassed the cause.”

In a protest last month against the dairy business, Animal Rebellion, an offshoot of Extinction Rebellion, spilled milk out of containers in the food court of the Knightbridge department store before posting video of the event on social media.

After filling the floor of the upscale retailer with milk to highlight the environmental effects of the dairy business, the group was forcefully removed.

Vegans, however, criticised the group’s activities on social media, claiming they “made us seem like idiots” and that it was “detrimental rather than beneficial.”

Am I the only vegan who was extremely worried rather than pleased by the Harrods milk protest, asked one account to start the discussion?

There must be alternatives to the direct consumption of an animal product; otherwise, we risk seeming hypocritical, in my opinion.

Maybe I’m missing something, but I got sick from the entire affair, and I don’t think that’s good for our cause.

Other accounts were quick to concur, with one claiming they “didn’t understand it” and that it made “vegans seem like idiots.”

The very thought of that demonstration makes me angry, according to another report.

At best, it is hypocritical.

Twitter users were quick to point out that the protesters were just creating “a mess for the cleaners to clean up” and making it “hazardous for handicapped customers.”

They also conducted sit-ins at other supermarkets and stripped shelves of milk and dairy items.

You didn’t damage the dairy business here, you just handed them a big new order, a twitter user said.

“You harm the store’s employees (who may face punishment for the expense of the additional order), you hurt the store’s impoverished and food-insecure patrons, and you put handicapped customers in risk.”

What’s wrong with you, I ask.

Another person questioned why clowns usually cause difficulty for the working class but never for themselves.

You’ve just created a terrible mess that will take the cleaners a long time to clean for some silly message that only a small group of people, largely toffs like you, care about.

In response to the internet reaction, American actor Travis Wester advised Animal Rebellion that “the next time you want to virtue signal with perfectly delicious food, I propose you use it to feed the poor.”

The group is seen approaching the milk area of the Food Hall at Harrods in the protest video before emptying the milk cartons one by one onto the ground.

The protest took place on July 27.

Security personnel encounter resistance from the group’s members, and many persons were had to forcibly eject the activists from the business.

Why are you doing this, a lady can be heard asking in the background. It’s repulsive.

Animal Rebellion also invaded additional dairy aisles in Bristol and London as well as “The Cheese Room” at a Waitrose shop.

‘We took this action at Harrods to say that we won’t stand by while unsustainable, harmful businesses wreak havoc on people throughout the world,’ said Beau King Houston, one of the protesters at Harrods.

“Harrods is a representation of the dysfunctional system we now inhabit.”

“A system that disregards the interests and well-being of everyone, favouring politicians and their business associates, but they might also be a part of the transition to a better future.”

‘We are aware that five people staged a little demonstration in the Harrods Food Halls,’ a spokeswoman for Harrods stated.

The people were quickly led out of the business, and nothing further was done.
