Florida drone pilot films shark’s near miss with swimmers

Last week, a Florida drone pilot captured a shark’s near miss with unknowing swimmers.

Robert Russ noticed the seven-foot shark Thursday while flying a drone with his brother. He tracked it as it swam along the Daytona Beach beachfront.

The shark approached two swimmers, who waved obliviously at the camera.

A blacktip shark approaches the two, but suddenly glides away, leaving them unaware of the danger.

Russ told Fox35 that it swam near many individuals before learning they weren’t food.

He was frightened for his people because of the recent shark attacks at Daytona Beach in 2022.

Russ said, ‘It was disturbing to witness since so many individuals were bitten, although they were inadvertent’

Florida leads the nation in shark attacks and bites, followed by New York.

This summer, a 13-year-old boy and an adolescent female were attacked in Florida.

Volusia County, Florida, has seen six shark bites this year.

Officials recommend swimming near a lifeguard and not swimming alone.

In New York, State Parks Regional Director George Gorman said shark patrols would continue throughout summer.
