UK along with its G7 partners issue a statement on the executions by the military junta in Myanmar

G7 statement issued jointly:

The four killings carried out by the military junta in Myanmar are severely condemned by us, the G7 foreign ministers of Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the United Kingdom, and the United States of America, as well as by the high representative of the European Union.

The lack of fair trials and these executions, which are the first to take place in Myanmar in more than thirty years, demonstrate the junta’s disdain for the country’s unshakeable democratic ambitions.

Popular members of the democratic opposition who were executed included democracy activists Kyaw Min Yu (also known as “Ko Jimmy”), Phyo Zeyar Thaw, Aung Thura Zaw, and Hla Myo Aung.

Our hearts go out to the families of the four victims as well as the numerous others who have perished, been detained, or been subjected to torture in Myanmar since the military erroneously assumed power in February 2021.

We continue to strongly denounce the military takeover in Myanmar and express our grave worry for the nation’s political, economic, social, humanitarian, and human rights conditions.

We demand that the military government stop using violence right away, stop carrying out additional arbitrary killings, release all political prisoners and people who have been arrested without cause, and put the nation back on the path to democracy.

We demand that the military execute the ASEAN Five Point Consensus in a meaningful way and continue to support ASEAN’s efforts in this regard.

This entails engaging in an open discourse with a variety of democratic opposition groups.

We also continue to support the UN’s initiatives and facilitate efficient communication between the Special Envoys for ASEAN and the UN Secretary General on Myanmar.
