Personnel disposing of suspected bombs in the UK are being equipped with next-generation digital protection

Armed with cutting-edge digital defence against remotely activated explosives, military experts called upon to dispose of suspected bombs in the UK.

The life-saving equipment will scan the airwaves for remote control signals that could be attempting to detonate an explosive device, allowing trained Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) specialists to block them using this cutting-edge digital technique.

A £41 million contract with Leonardo resulted in the creation of 10 employment and the support of 100 additional roles across the nation, including 35 at Leonardo in Basildon and Southampton.

SME companies from all around the UK will provide services worth about 50% of the deal.

In order to deploy the new technology throughout all of the Defense’s specialty units in charge of disposing of explosive devices and weapons in 2025, the first deliveries of the new equipment are scheduled to begin in the fall of 2024.
