A woman’s body discovered floating in a remote area of a well-known beach in NSW’s Lake Macquarie region

After a woman’s body was discovered floating in a remote area of a well-known beach in NSW’s Lake Macquarie region, police opened an inquiry.

Immediately after the body was discovered in the sea on Monday around 2:30 pm, emergency personnel were dispatched to Moonee Beach, which is located near Catherine Hill Bay.

The woman was reportedly treated on the spot but was pronounced dead.

Officers arrived and established a crime scene.

The woman hasn’t been officially named yet.

The circumstances behind the woman’s death are being investigated.

Unconfirmed rumours that another swimmer may be missing have been received by the police, who are now looking into the matter.

The coroner will receive a report.
