Alabama team begins Day 2 of appointments at the at Farnborough Airshow.

England’s FARNBOROUGH In the midst of intense competition for new aerospace industry investments and jobs, Commerce Secretary Greg Canfield and the Alabama economic development team started their second day of meetings at the 2022 Farnborough International Airshow.

A full day of scheduled conversations took place between Secretary Canfield and Bob Smith, the point person for aerospace for the Alabama Department of Commerce, on Monday at the trade expo, which draws influential business decision-makers and world leaders from the public and private sectors.

Speaking with businesses with a history in Alabama was “quite fruitful,” Secretary Canfield said.

“We found a handful of possible prospects that could play out in the longer run.”

Additionally, it’s always exciting when a meeting presents a surprise that could lead to a very beneficial development.

The state working team is interacting with many of these aerospace industry titans while they are at Farnborough, including Boeing, Airbus, GKN Aerospace, and United Launch Alliance.

They all have substantial, expanding presences in Alabama.

Meetings with Raytheon, Kratos, and other defense contractors are on the agenda for today.

According to Secretary Canfield, “our aim at Farnborough is simple: we’re here to promote Alabama as the optimum place for growth initiatives in aerospace and defense.”

CONCURRENT ENVIRONMENT

At the Farnborough location, company recruitment teams from all throughout Alabama are holding their own scheduled meetings.

The rivalry among all of these company recruiters for Farnborough’s aerospace expansion projects is fierce.

In the U.S. Pavilion, a vast area crammed with exhibits of aerospace parts and eye-catching exposition booths, no less than 14 different states are represented.

Mississippi, South Carolina, Florida, Texas, Ohio, Oklahoma, and Kansas are among the states present.

Foreign aerospace organizations are also crowded into Farnborough’s pavilions.
