Police made a concerted effort to stop the trafficking of illegal products and drugs along Western Cape roads, which resulted in the seizure of substances valued at R700 000 and the arrest of two suspects, who are scheduled to appear in court for the first time today, July 8, 2022.

Members of the Mossel Bay Sea-border unit responded quickly to intelligence of a drug-transporting truck on July 6, 2022, at around 11:20. They put the information to use and discovered the car driving toward Mossel Bay on the N2 motorway.

A car pursuit started when the suspected drivers saw the police and raced off. When they discovered compressed dagga hidden in the rear, the squad stopped the car just outside of Mossel Bay and started searching. Police detained the two people inside, who were 23 and 35, and seized the drugs.

The two are still being held by the police. On Friday, July 8, 2022, they are expected to appear in court in Mossel Bay, South Africa, to answer to a charge of drugs possession.

On Thursday, July 7, 2022 at around 01:45, Attaqua K9 members searched a passenger bus on the N2 highway in George in an unconnected incident. A travelling bag containing 5, 2 kg of dagga with an estimated street value of R40 000-00 was found when the luggage compartment was searched. The passenger who was detained on suspicion of drug peddling was directly connected to the dagga.

According to a preliminary inquiry, the passenger entered the bus at Gqeberha carrying drugs that were supposed to be delivered in George.

The 32-year-old suspect is still being held by police. After being charged, he will show up in court.

The management of the Western Cape police congratulated the officers who made sure that these drugs were taken off the streets. One of the main causes of significant and violent crimes in this province continues to be substance misuse. These shipments were seized in accordance with police goals to stop drug distribution in communities.
