A law change passed today streamlines the process for allowing COVID-19 to be given without requiring a prescription

A bill passed today simplifies the procedure of administering COVID-19 boosters without having a prescription.

The revisions to the Medicines Act, according to Health Minister Andrew Little, will make it easier to provide vaccine boosters in the future.

“The COVID-19 Vaccine Technical Advisory Group of the Ministry of Health suggested that patients who are at high risk of becoming severely sick from a COVID-19 infection obtain a second booster six months after the first,” Andrew Little stated.

“With today’s developments, the Director-General of Health now has the authority to make boosters available to those who require them, without the requirement for an individual prescription.”

Following that, the Director-General of Health will determine who is qualified for a second booster. Later this week, that announcement is scheduled to be made.”
