A 29-year-old woman has died on Hamilton Island after her golf buggy toppled over while doing a U-turn

On Hamilton Island, a young woman died after her golf buggy overturned while making a U-turn.

At about 4:30 p.m. on Monday, the 29-year-old was a passenger in the buggy when it overturned while traveling south on Whitsunday Boulevard.

On Queensland’s Whitsunday Island, the buggy is thought to have made the U-turn at a crossroads near Coral Sea Avenue.

The woman, who was from NSW, died at the scene, but the buggy’s male driver was uninjured.

Golf buggies are the most common mode of transportation on the vacation island, and they can be rented for a modest charge with no prior experience required.

The investigation is still ongoing, according to police, with forensic crash officers on the scene.

Hamilton Island, about 55 kilometers off the Queensland coast and close to the Great Barrier Reef, is a popular tourist attraction.
